Looking for Any Equipment or Coaches?

Looking for any table tennis bats, rubbers, clothings, shoes or even table tennis tables? If you're looking for that certain piece of table tennis equipment that you can't seem to find or find it too costly to purchase from your local dealers. Do kindly email us at sgtabletennis@gmail.com with the information of the equipment that you're looking for and we would be glad to provide you with best prices we can find for these equipment and work a way out for delivery. Please don't order 3 table tennis balls and expect us to delivery the stuff to you, its kind of inappropriate right? Non-Singaporeans collect their good if they happen to pass by Singapore or receive their orders by mail. Cost of delivery would be paid for by buyers in the case of an overseas order outside of Singapore. We also have a vast number of contacts for table tennis coaches, so do send us an enquiry if you are loking for a table tennis coach here in Singapore

Updates on Grand Finale 2007 Team Event

It has seemed that as of two weeks ago, news has spread that Singapore's Number 1 Men's Player, Gao Ning, has opted not to play in this year's Grand Finale Team Event, leaving this year's tournament open to the Sunsports Club and Ntu Alumni teams to win the title. These two associations have bought the bulk or rather almost all of the china players available in and outside stta. As such, it is almost certain to anyone in the table tennis fraternity that the eventual champions for the team event would be either Sunsports Club or Ntu Alumni. Other teams that have entered are also SAFRA and SAFSA, but both have fielded all singaporean teams.

It also seems that the table tennis community is dominated by 3 main clubs, basically Sunsports Club, Shingwah and SAFRA. What can we or even stta do to improve this situation?

The blog would like to open this discussion to the floor.

This entry was put together by a few guest authors, with notable table tennis backgrounds.

Egos

Having an ego is good trait to have for a table tennis player. It spurs you to train hard to continue churning out good results. It makes you strive to outdo your competitors. It makes you seek further improvement in your skill even after suffering defeats. All table tennis players have egos be they big or small. If you are saying that you don't have a ego, well then I don't suppose you are a true competitive player.

Whilst having an ego is a good thing, having an inflated one would be a big no no. An inflated ego can reflect badly on a player. Not taking defeats graciously, looking down at other players and often boasting about their past achievements. The players in these category often live in a surreal world of their own, where he/she is the hero and everyone else is zero.

Young players should be more aware of this issue as this ego problem often creeps on starting from a young age. Your ego swells when you hear bystanders comment about how well your strokes are or about the fluidity you are displaying in your game. It swells again the first time you step on the podium, collecting your first medal. I'm sure many of you players out there can relate to what I've attempted to illustrate from the examples I've given. Indeed it feels good to receive praises and win prizes but we should always keep our heads firmly to the ground and not let all this success get to your head and thereby become an ego maniac in the process. Hope I've provide some food for thought, especially for the young players out there.

Reasons for Pang Xue Jie Being Chosen for SEA Games

It has been hotly debated over the tagboard as to whether or not Pang Xue Jie deserved his automatic seat in the SEA Games squad. Actually it was a pretty much clear cut decision made. Xue Jie is the best and youngest local prospect whose mostly likely to be taking on the professional path in the near future.

People might be saying that other young talents should also be given a fair chance, but are these players actually be willing to commit themselves to take on the professional path? The answer is a likely no. The only people who have the right to protest are Daniel Wong, Clarence Lee and Goh Yi Long, but when even they are not making a fuss out of this issue, I wonder why are all these detractors making so much noise about.

In the results area Xue Jie is not lacking either. Most notably, he has taken gold for the pro tour junior circuit individual events in Bahrain and Qatar this year, reaching marks that no local boy has done previously before.

Technically, he is well grounded in his fundamentals from receiving formal training starting at a young age. Another reason that people would like to blame would be his parents' connections. It is a fact that Xue Jie's Dad is a member of STTA's committee. However, if everything was down solely to connections, shouldn't Xue Jie's both brothers be in the national team and going for the SEA games as well even if they are not good enough.

Lastly, I would like to say that no matter how talented Xue Jie is or is made out to be. If he does not remain firmly on the ground and starts to get haughty just with achieving a little. He wouldn't go far in the future either. Only if he continues work hard in continuing to improve himself can he one have a chance of making it great. Talent can only bring you so far but hardwork and willingness to learn are to more important factors in the long run. Thank you for your time spent reading. Constructive views are greatly welcomed.

Updates for Grand Finale

There has been news that maybe one or two international stars would be coming down to play in the Team Event for the Grand Finale although it hasn't been confirmed yet. It would definitely be a feast for eyes of ping pong lovers. Like what some of the readers has been saying, it is actually quite true the prize money is pretty little considering the high standard of the competition. Oh well sometimes we don't always get what we want, we're sure the players participating are also grumbling as well but sadly we cannot do much about it. Do stay tune for more updates
